A native of Miami, Florida, I enlisted in the United States Navy

I then attended 688 Class Submarine Electronic Surveillance Measures "C" School at Naval Submarine Training Center Pacific, in Pearl Harbor, HI.
In March 1982, upon graduating at the top
of my class, I was selected to remain at Naval Submarine Training Center Pacific for Instructor Duty. It was on this tour that I attained the rank of Second Class Petty Officer and was designated a Master Training Specialist.
In April 1984, I transferred to New Construction Duty
on the Precommissioning Unit of USS Providence (SSN 719), in Groton, CT. Following commissioning, the ship was homeported in Groton, CT and made deployments to the Mediterranean Sea and Northern Arctic. I attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer by the end of my tour.
In September 1989, I transferred to Trident Refit Facility, Kings Bay, GA

In December 1992, I transferred to the USS Asheville (SSN 758)
for a tour as Navigation/Operations Department Enlisted Advisor. While onboard I attained the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer and completed two Western Pacific deployments.
In 1997, I was selected for the most senior enlisted position
on board a submarine, Chief of the Boat, and transferred to the USS Chicago (SSN 721), which changed home ports from San Diego, CA to Pearl Harbor, HI in May, 1997.
I have been awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, three Navy Achievement Medals,
