I had the great opportunity to travel to Ireland for two weeks in August 1999. It was part of a Keene State history seminar course dealing with the Potato Famine and Emigration. This page has a few pictures that I took and some links to places I visited.

We left from Boston on Aer Lingus, and flew into Shannon Airport. We stayed at Kilmurry Village of the University of Limerick. It's just five miles outside of the city of Limerick, and I spent a lot of time there. This map shows where I traveled in Ireland, and the numbers correspond to pictures I have on these web sites.

I also have several links to other Internet sites for many of the locations.

 1. This is King John's Castle in Limerick, built in 1210. The Shannon River is in the foreground.
   2. This St. Mary's Cathedral, constructed in 1168. It was a Catholic Church then but is Protestant now. In 1691 during the seige of Limerick, the army of William of Orange mounted cannons on the steeple to shell the Catholic troops in Limerick Castle.
