The Raccoons was an animated show, created by Kevin Gillis, which first aired in 1980. The first shows were specials and were hits in Canada, the United States as well as Europe. After the specials, the series launched in 1985 and aired until around 1991 to 1992.
I became a fan a little late in the show's time. I saw it when I was 10 years old. Back then, the Disney Channel aired the series in the US. Unfortunately back then, the Disney Channel was not included in basic cable service. So I only got to see episodes when Disney had the preview weeks in which they allowed non-subscribers to see what they had to offer and give viewers a chance to order the channel. By the time Disney became standard with monthly service in NV, The Raccoons were not being aired in the US anymore.
Even though other people didn't remember or even know about the show, I never forgot it. I tried typing the keywords: "the raccoons" on Yahoo only to find thousands of listings completely unrelated to show. Just as I was giving up on finding at least a mere image of the show on the internet, I stumbled across Jim Gilsinan's Unofficial Raccoon Page. At last! I found other people who also remembered a great show. I was not alone anymore..
