Food Serving and Buying Guide for Camp


This list states quantities per person per meal. Multiply by numbers of campers and you will have the totals required.

Meat & Cheese
Hamburger - 4 ounces
Bacon - 2 1/2 ounces - 3 slices (18-20 per pound)
Chicken - 7-8 ounces
Beef Stew - 6 ounces
Weiners - (8-11 per pound) 4 ounces
Pork Chops - 7 oz.
Baked Ham - 5 ounces
Meat Loaf - 3 ounces
Sausage - 4 ounces
Cold Ham - 3 slices - 4 ounces
Cheddar Cheese - 1 ounce (1 pound 20-24 slices)
Cream Cheese - 2 ounces
Sandwich Loaf - 1 pound contains 10-12 slices

Canned Foods
Apple sauce, fruit cocktail, etc. - 4 ounces (approx. 5 per #2 can, 28 per #10 can)
Pork & Beans, etc. - 8 ounces
Soup - 8 fluid ounces
Corn, peas, carrots, etc. - 4 ounces
Tomatoes - 5 ounces
Tuna - 1 ounce

Dry Goods
Bisquick - 1 1/2 ounce
Dry Cereal - 3 ounces
Oatmeal - 2 1/2 ounces
Macaroni - 2 1/2 ounces
Spaghetti - 3 ounces
Rice - 1 1/2 ounce (1 cup rice makes 3 cups cooked)

Fruit - Fresh or Dried
Watermelon - 2 pounds
Apples for salad - 1/2
Raisins - 1 ounce (3 cups is 1 pound)
Apples, Oranges for eating - 1

Vegetables - Fresh
Potatoes - 8 ounces
Lettuce - 1/4 head
Onion - 4 ounces
Peas - 4 ounces
Cabbage - 6 ounces
Carrots - 5 ounces

Micellaneous
Regular Bread - 20 slices per loaf
Sandwich Bread - 24 slices per loaf
Pudding - 3 1/4 ounce package serves 4
Marshmallows - 32 per bag (1 pound contains 102)

Beverages
Juice - 4 ounces
Coffee - 1/2 - 1 ounce
Hot Chocolate Mix - 1 ounce
Powdered Drink - 4-5 servings (1 quart size)
Milk - 1/2 gallon = 10 servings
Powdered Milk can be used for drinking and works very well in cocoa and cooking.

Condiments
Ketchup - 1 1/2 ounces
Syrup - 1-1 1/2 ounces
Salad Dressing - 2 ounces
Pickles - 2 1/2 ounces
Flour for griddle cakes - 3 ounces
Butter - 3 ounces
Peanut butter and/or jam - 3 ounces
Salt - 1/2 ounce
Pepper - 1/4 ounce

Can Sizes
#300 (14-16 ounces) = 1 3/4 cups = 2-3 servings
#313 (16-17 ounces) = 2 cups = 3-4 servings
#2 (20 ounces) = 2 1/2 cups = 4-5 servings
#2 1/2 (29 ounces) = 3 1/2 cups = 5-6 servings
#3 cylinder (46 ounces) = 5 3/4 cups = 10 servings
#10 (6 pounds 8 ounces to 7 pounds 5 ounces) = 12-13 cups = 23-26 servings

Equivalents
16 ounces = 1 pound
2 cups sugar = 1 pound
1 stick butter (1/4 pound) = 1/2 cup or 8 tablespoons
4 cups flour = 1 pound
16 tablespoons = 1 cup
3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon
32 fluid ounces = 1 quart
