There is no law or a  government regulation to control about the gay acitivity, but homosexual acts are legal. Homosexuality has traditionally been an integral part of Indonesian culture. Married man also maintain sexual relationship with members of the same sex. Only in the country's new, western-oriented middle class has homophobia taken root.

Hulu Cafe
In the middle of the dense shopping of Kuta. Located on the northern end of Medan Lane as you head down Jln. Padma toward beach, before the entry to Bali Padma Hotel. Look for rainbow flags on either side of the door. Very gay and homey. Owned by a gay Aussie and his Balinese lover. Reasonable drink and snack/meal prices. Colorful mix of Aussies and local gays in this funky, friendly, fun spot. Packed on Wed, Fri and Sun for the cabaret show.
Goa 2001 (mixed)
Jln. Legian in Seminyak (next to the Taxi stands). Well-known trendy spot which gets packed just before the scene shifts to the dance clubs around Midnight. Very cruisy at the bar. Best after 11pm.
La Lucciola
Reservations: 261-047. Restaurant, bar and beach club just north of the gay beach area, 261-047 . Best to simply walk north along the gay beach from the end of Jln. Dhyana Pura. Owned and operated by a gay couple from Sydney. This is the place to hang-out, with fabulous Italian/continental menu and great breakfasts. Friendly, gorgeous staff and reasonable prices. Very laid-back, open-airr beachfront environment.
La Terasz
Jln. Legian in Seminyak. This new restaurant/night attracts much of the nearby Goa crowd. Enclosed with air-con.
